CU THRIVE Leadership Program

A six-month, evidence-based leadership development program designed for the unique needs of CU School of Medicine leaders.

Welcome

Welcome to the SOM Leadership Program! The CU THRIVE Leadership Program was created because we recognized a gap — while the evidence for strong leadership in healthcare is clear, there has been no program tailored specifically to the unique needs of CU SOM leaders.

Strong leadership matters: it shapes whether team members feel valued and included, whether leaders communicate openly and transparently, whether they actively seek input, support professional growth, and express genuine appreciation for their team's contributions — all of which can meaningfully influence whether our faculty and staff thrive or struggle with burnout.

This program, supported by the CU THRIVE Center for Workplace Well-being Research, is designed for CU SOM leaders who are ready to grow. Over six months, you will engage in short skill-building lessons, real-world leadership challenges to practice on the job, and peer group sessions every two weeks to share what's working and work through challenges together — all grounded in evidence-based practices proven to support well-being and reduce burnout.

Thank you for being part of building a stronger, healthier School of Medicine — starting with how we lead.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Describe core leadership behaviors that reduce burnout and increase professional satisfaction.
  • Apply core leadership behaviors through structured on-the-job challenges.
  • Use self-reflection to identify strengths and guide ongoing leadership development.
  • Collaborate with peers to share challenges, strategies, and lessons learned.

This program was developed by faculty at the Centers for Health, Work & Environment at the Colorado School of Public Health in collaboration with faculty from the CU THRIVE: Center for Workplace Well-being Research.
