Month 1

Introduction

Connection is at the heart of well-being — for the people you lead, and for you.

Lesson Overview

As a leader, you have more influence over your team’s well-being than almost anyone else in their work life — how you show up for people and engage them directly shapes whether your team thrives or burns out. Connection is at the heart of that. Burnout isn’t just about workload; it’s deeply tied to loneliness. In this lesson you will learn about this connection.

We will challenge you to start addressing this close to home: have one honest conversation with a direct report about how connected and supported they feel, and one conversation with a peer or mentor about your own sources of support — because leaders need connection too. Then bring what you learned to your peer group, where you’ll share a meal and reflect together on what connection and support look like in your own leadership.

Expectations for the Next 6 Months

  • Complete brief monthly independent learning consisting of a reading, a podcast, and a challenge.
  • Participate in monthly peer leadership discussions.
  • Support a respectful, confidential learning environment.

Learning Objective

Reflect on the role of connection and support — both for the people you lead and for yourself — as a foundation for reducing burnout and sustaining effective leadership.
